Deale, 9-29-12

And so it ends.....my quest to try to win the Severn River Rod and Keg Club 2 month long White Perch Tourney. It looks like I will finish 4th with 36.5" in aggregate (3 fish). Last year I finished 2nd with 36" and the year before I finished 5th with 34.5".

This year the 1st Place  guy is at 37.25" with someone right behind at 37 and 36.75". There is one more day left in the tourney but I am not fishing Sunday (30th). Close but no cigar.

Dan and I were on the water at 0700 and ready to do some perchin'....

It did not take us long to start catchin' WP and little stripers while still in the inlet. Then....

A 12.75" WP! Dan's biggest ever! And man, could I have used that one for the tourney! But this was a good sign!

We fished some more and caught a few nice ones and lost some really good ones!    mad

I can't remember a day with so many short strikes and fish getting off. I think they were not serious about eating and were giving us a half baked effort.

We decided to run to the other side and were going a crisp 25mph until we were a little past 1/2 way when I had to slow down to 18-20. Still, not bad but the weatherman may have blown the forecast because the seas built up to 3 footers.

So we went fishing and caught a few perch and stripers....

....but nothing was happening so we decided it was time to get back over.

We are both still checking for loose fillings and I will need to see Dr. Mo immediately. We averaged about 9 kts on the way back as we took a beating.

I am still impressed with how my little boat handles but not very impressed with my decision making. Oh well.

We decided to try Capt. Carl's "Ernie1" hole but that produced nothing...fish are gone! We then tried the western shore of Holland Pt. but no one was home.

So we went over to Mo's Hole where it was rough but we picked up a few fish of nice proportions.

Finally we went back in to the inlet and we went to where we 1st started. Dan made a toss and something took off but got off. I bet Dan will think about that one for a few days. We finished up at the wall which has not done well lately but we picked off quite a few including my biggest of the day.

In hindsight...I would change nothing. Dan and I had a great time and finished the day at Big Dave's BBQ with a rack of ribs!

Yeah, that was a bumpy ride today but who knows, with hardly any other boats out there we could have had an awesome day and some keeper stripers. You never know until you try it.

We caught a bunch of fish, but nothing of any size besides that one white perch and a couple that got off that could have been big including something that hit my fluke and felt like a good fish on my bass tackle.

That really was some awesome barbecue too, thanks for the trip Ernie.

Man you guys catch some impressive white perch. I don't think I've ever caught one over 8 or 9". Nicely done!

It is a passion of mine, instilled by Carl Johnson way back in the mid 80's.The key is using UL equipment.....makes it a blast!
