Nice Jeff!!

I should break out the yak more because I would rather be on the water than standing on its shores.....

Lots of bait fish though, good sign.

A friend called and asked if I was watching...I was not but then did and saw Laroche and Moore hit taters. They are a blast to watch. I went yesterday....Detwiller was spectacular.

I give them a little more credit...maybe Pony League. Their pitcher on Monday threw the ball well. They do stink though......

Re: Rinky dink weekend.....

lousy baseball is a time honored tradition at wrigley__I havnt been there in 33 years, but little has changed. I have enjoyed the nationals since I went to the park last year when the cubs were in town. the cubs lost that game too

Re: Rinky dink weekend.....

I went to the game with a Cubbies fan. He had the hat, shirt and SHOES on! But as he says, he is used to it (losing). Every year, he calls me and says "this is our year". It's a time honored self fulfilling anti prophecy. Still, he loves being a Cubbies fan.

One thing he noted was that if it was the Cubs that were 7+ games up in September that the stadium (at home) would have been rocking and rolling. We do not have that in DC, unfortunately.

Re: Rinky dink weekend.....

My family are hard core cub fans. My Mom and Dad will listen or watch almost every game.
It makes me said that My dad has been doing that for 82 years without a championship season.
I also fear for the city if they ever do win. I think it would be ugly.

Go Nats it will be a fun October.

Re: Rinky dink weekend.....

i can still remember rick monday, don kessinger, bill madlock, jose cardinal, jerry morales, ivan dejesus, steve onteveris (sp?),bobby mercer, manny trillo, steve swisher, rick and paul reshal (sp?)  ray burris, bruce sutter, dave kingman, andre thornton, and most of all jack brickhouse,----- ron santo, billy williams, ernie banks, and fergie jenkins  were a few years before i could pay attention, but they were household words.

i dont remember so many pitchers throwing in the mid 90's, which is almost common today

in todays hectic world, fewer and fewer people take the time to play or watch the game. some are openly contemptuous of the sport, tho i suspect they fail to grasp the subtlety and nuance of the ever changing situations.

at least the juiced players and balls are a thing of the past

Well said....when I go to a game, I watch it differently than most. It's a game that I totally understand. I played for years and coached for many more. It is a great game and now lots of fun in DC.

Well....most of them.

Re: Rinky dink weekend.....

BTW, I fished during a conference call today and saw some nice bass cruising the shallows. A few took my offering but they dd not smash it. The blue gill seem lethargic...I think they just spawned again.

Re: Rinky dink weekend.....

He didn't play for the Cubbies, but if you're a fan of Chicago sports (or baseball), you know who Minnie Minoso is.

I met him after a game @ Wrigley in one of the bars that surround the park.  He came up and started talking to us, I think
because we were discussing the game. Very informative, and he was adamant that Babe Ruth was the best hitter, by a wide margin, that
he had ever seen.  He was understandably bitter about the current wages players enjoy relative to what players of his era were paid.

Re: Rinky dink weekend.....

I have 3 pictures of ballplayers n my basement:

1. Cookie Rojas (cousin)

2. Roberto Clemente

3. Minnie Minoso

Minnie was an incredible talent. This blog urges his election to the HOF:

Re: Rinky dink weekend.....

Before reading the blog, I know he was an All-Star 4-5 times, at least, and a couple years was in the top 5 in MVP voting.  I remember him saying that he felt he lost a couple of his prime years because he was not signed by a MLB team (which was Cleveland, my favorite team, of course they traded him) until he was 24-25.
