9/1, Chesapeake Bay

I met Capt. Carl Brown at Harbor Cove to go and chase some stripers. I had some great intel (they were busting on Thursday noon and last night) and expectations were high.

This is not Carl's boat but it was nice....

Another beautiful morning...

We were set to go and lathered up against the sun...

We 1st checked out Walnut Point but a very strong NW wind made the drift tough. We caught a few little ones in the area but decided to look for bigger.

So we went north following the drop offs and saw nothing...until we got close to Poplar Island where we saw 12-13 boats. Once there, the screen lit up! Perhaps we got there too late because within 15 minutes, the fleet was reduced to 3-4 boats.

Time to move,  which we did. We hit the back side of Poplar and again the screen lit up. And we did not even get a bump. Two more boats joined us and after 45 minutes, we were all scratching our heads.

Oh well. Since we were only fishing until noon, we decided to head back over to the western shore where Carl wanted to show me a perch honey hole he found.

At 1st we jigged and caught nothing and then i g=found that i had one of Woody's spinners so I put it on and BAM....a fat 12 incher!

We were in 3' of water but not close to shore and I did manage a few more including an 11 incher.

We caught a TON of stripers.....

....yep, cookie cutter juvies.

And we caught 5-6 flounder...

....yep, all juvies.

Then...Carl put on a bottom rig which we tipped with Gulp.

As he was reeling in to make a move, this guy decided to eat....

Oh well, again!

While we were frustrated at the big marks we had earlier, we had a good morning out. The wind was more than what they called for but on Carl's boat....who cares!!

It looks like this year's motto is "you need to be in the right place at the right time". We'll be back at it again soon!  cool

Small world ... That top pic of the Regulator is my buddies boat.  We got into some decent fish just north or poplar yesterday late afternoon - couple 22-24" stripers and a bunch just under.

That is a sweet boat....it seems that the PM bite has been better than the AM bite. Glad you got some!
