Deale, 8/4

I picked up Joe Engle and his son Jake at 0530 so we could head out to the bay to perhaps chase some breaking fish. The weather report called for seas of < a foot. This I like!

Of course, I always bring white perch gear just in case.

Other than the fact that they detoured us on the VA side of the beltway, we were looking forward to seeing the sunrise....

Neither Joe or Jake had ever caught a white perch before so we made sure that they did...and did they!

That last picture of Joe shows a FAT 12 incher! It was a brute!

I caught some as well.....

We started fishing the wall at Deale and I caught 4-5 WP but Joe and Jake could not buy a bite so we moved to Mo's Hole.

That is where we caught fish, including several puppy drum.....

They were absolutely beautiful and I hope they grow up and stay in the bay.

We did try to find breaking fish out in the deeper water but the wind was up and so were the 2 footers with the occasional 3'....

Needless to say we did not do this for long although we did mark and saw lots of bait but there was no one home.

We then finished the day at Mo's Hole and then at the wall. We did pick off a few but we were tired and it was getting hot at 2 pm.

Since the Severn River Rod and Keg Club (SRRKC) holds their White Perch Open in August & September, I was looking for bigger fish, which we found. I was able to put three nice fish on the Leader Board...

They went 12, 12 and 11 1/4 for a total of 35 1/4 inches. Last year I came in 2nd Place with 36" so this is not a bad start. Of course, Woody won the whole thing last year with an astonishing 40"!

The year before I was 5th with 34 1/2" and Woody won it with 38 7/8"!

So another great day on the water and two more guys catch their 1st white perch ever!
