Severn River and Chesapeake Bay, 7-28-12

I met Jimmy Mejias at Carlo's house so we could make our way to Spa Creek. This....is how he faked it so he could take a nap on the way to Annapolis!

We caught the 1st fish by the condo on the creek but we wanted a cooler full for Jimmy to take home so off to the towers we went. Carlos scored on the fly!

But we were all scoring....

These were your typical 9-11", fat Severn River WP! But it was Jimmy's 1st white perch ever!

As I looked out on the bay, it was flat calm and we just had to go so we motored over to the eastern shore and worked down Kent Island. Nada!

We then got on the west side of Poplar and Carlos starts hollering, "breaking fish"! Sure enough, we started to hammer them.....I had a keeper sized one on but a line tangling foul up messed us up and the fish swam away. Then Jimmy catches his 1st striper!

Nice! Then he hooks into another keeper sized one but we lose him at the net...operator error#2! Oh well....

Carlos then catches a little one but it is with a fresh water 5wt!

This action lasted for about 15 minutes and then it vanished! So we motored to the backside of Poplar where we saw a lot a of flips but little action except this nice croaker caught on a toothache spoon!

We then went back across to Deale and caught a few but man, it was slow there (slack tide). So now we needed to make the long run back to the Severn and it got choppy (storms were moving in and a bizillion boats in the area) .....we got banged around a bit.

Once at Severn, we hit the towers but the wave action was unnerving so we head into the back in the river.....

....where we hit some familiar spots (lots of docks and weeds) and we all did well with Carlos nailing this fat 11 incher. I thought he was longer but he was huge!

The wave action there was rough to as there were many pleasure boaters out (must remember not to fish the Severn on Saturdays)!! We left there and tried a few more places but on;y scoring a couple more perch..

All in all we had a great day, we ran a ton (50 miles+) 'cause I wanted Jimmy to see the area but we were rewarded with breaking fish on one of the runs so it's OK by me. Jimmy also got his cooler full of perch!

When we got back at the ramp a fella was having trouble with his old boat. Another boater was helping him and he asked me for a jump. We obliged. And then his family came aboard an 5-6 people got on. Hmmmmm???

As we left, the boated that was helping was taking out and I asked him about his old motor. it was '56. It started on one pull....unreal!
