Upper James River Report - 07/13/12

Wife and son are in Sweden, so it is time for me to fish! Loaded up the yak for the river to see what she has to offer. I paddled upstream doing some exploring, stopping here and there to examine the structure. I probably paddled upriver about a mile discovering wood structure, but more interestingly, all of the submerged rock and crevasses creating deep pools. But on to the fishing.

I threw jigs, crank baits, and topwater, but the success was all on the jig. I ended up with 5 smallies. A 10", 11", 12", 13", and my PB of 15.5". Most were only a few feet deep and relating to current breaks.

Was so excited about the PB that I forgot to photograph it....d'oh!

If it were easy, they'd call it catching!
