We (Jimmy and Jeff) were on the water by 6 AM. It was a cool 79 degrees...VERY comfortable. Almost needed a light jacket…..



When we got to the mouth of the jetty, there was no question that we would run to the other side but this time, I reversed my normal course...and I am glad we did.

We got over to the mouth of the Choptank in short order and started our drift  (trolling motor went kaput).

It did not take Jeff long to take the skunk off the boat with this nice blue.....



...and this very hungry striper!



Then Jeff got slammed and his rod bent over violently while the fish (perhaps a blue) just ripped line but unfortunately, he came off. We never saw him but Jeff was exited for sure.

Then it happened. What you are about to read is why I am still sick.... 

Jeff gets a fairly soft hit but has something heavy on he line. Certainly it is not fighting mad like a blue...maybe it's a striper. As it gets up on the surface, we see that it is a speckled trout. A BIG one! I get the net and put in under the trout and as I lift it, he slithers out of it. This was a fish that I want no responsibility of losing but now I have to live with it. Thankfully, Jeff is a gracious and kind man and did not throw me overboard. I will let him tell you the size.

OK....time to move on. Once I gathered my composure we started another drift and got closer to the shore. I made a nice toss right off the rocks and was rewarded with this nice 21” srtriper!



We caught a few more fish but it was time to move on to the next hole….and we did well here but all the fish were small. We wore them out though….





…..they were aggressive!

After we got our fill of little guys we ran in to a friend who said there were some birds working on the north side of the island. We made a tour but found no love including the sod banks and favored points.

So we ended back on the south side and I noticed something that was reminiscent of a great striper day that Jimmy and I had (the day he dropped my rod/reel over the side). There was a distinct tide line so we rode the edge  but my FF did not mark anything . So I lowered the trolling motor (has a FF transducer on it) to see what was down there….we found fish! And the trolling motor came to life! We proceeded  to catch a bazillion small stripers could not find the big ones like Jimmy and I did that day a few years back. Oh well.

Now it’s time to go to Mo’s hole as it in noontime.

I don’t know if I mentioned it….but it was a delightful day. We never felt the heat and laughed like kids as to how nice it was out!

Once we got to the house, I put the trolling motor down but the waves caused by a N wind and boats was too much so we….anchored.

Man was it slow. We could not buy a perch but finally Jeff got one and it ignited a repeat of July 4!



We slammed them…including 5 puppy drum!





It was doubles and triples. They were in the shade and in the grass…





Fatsos!



The osprey  were even enjoying the show…



Around 2:30, the fishing started to slow so we headed back to the barn but not without a quick stop at the wall where each of us caught a few fish….just to prove that the wall is back.

We were off the water at 3….and it was HOT but not as hot as the action we had today.

Great day and we found a new place to eat (right next to Ledo’s). Great subs and fried chicken!
