Occoquan, 7-5-12

They said it was supposed to be hot today....so Curly, Jonathan and I were at the ramp before sunup and on the water as it came up.

We headed over to a grassy area to see if we could raise a snakehead.  What we got was the skunk off the boat as Jonathan boated this nice one.

This salty fisherman is starting to like the freshwater. Interestingly, he just moved up here from OBX and VA Beach, he was commenting as to how much water we have in the area. The fishing is just a bit different. I haven't showed him the bay or the UP yet either!

Since we did not get another connection, we moved to another flat where there was another boat. Here we picked up some bites.....and some fish!

Jonathan connects again.

I told him he had a horseshoe up his.....several times he threw into the heavy cover and somehow he managed to never lose a lure.

I think he likes this bass fishing stuff.

The fishing slowed so we decided to move into a creek that looks like it could be anywhere but in Metro DC. Beautiful place....but there was no wind.

We were sheltered.

It was dead still.

It was hot.

There was no wind.

The guys were gasping for air as we tried to catch another fish but it was not to be.

We moved out near the mouth of the creek and all of the sudden...big wind. It was 10 and then 15 and close to 20 at times. The boat drifted back into the creek but we were much cooler. But it was tough fishing so we moved back out and tried a few spots and then another flat.

A couple of more fish were caught but not by me.....

All and all, slow fishing but a great time on the water. We came out around noon....

That was my girlfriend- I'm not denying it though...

All jokes aside, I had a great time today with Ernie and Curly. These two know their stuff. Thanks again guys for the freshwater education. Hopefully I can return the favor one day at the mouth of the bay.
