New Lake Ashburn Record by Big Jeff

Went down to the lake at 6 pm to weigh and measure Big Jeff's 5 lb 14 oz bass and then went back to the house.  Phone rings again at 7 pm and Jeff says this one is much bigger and do I mind coming down again.......no problem.
This one is a pig! big_smile

Not a bad afternoon...... a 5 lb 14 oz at 5:55 pm and a record-breaking 6 lb 11 oz about an hour later !

It was a real pleasure to be able to witness both fish!

The real thank you belongs to Mrs Curly- for shuttling mr John down on two occaisions...

A special thanks to Mr John, for taking the time to ride over, and for being gracious enough to furnish the official instruments of documentation.

both were fantastic fish, and pulled liked branded mules.

Trilene 10pound flourocarbon proved to be up to the task-particularly on fish two, when we really slugged it out in close quarters.

i lost another nice bass, on the jump, prior to these two. I was crestfallen, thinking the big opportunity for the day had probably passed.

i sat there stunned for about 5 minutes...then sharpened the hook on my jig.

Re: New Lake Ashburn Record by Big Jeff

the other thought is, i have seen a fair number of big fish.

however, it always impresses me, just how very much fish it takes to get to the six pound mark.
that is a lot of bass..

they were both pretty fish, but that 2nd one could have been a centerfold in bass magazine. not a single nick, colours popping, as heavy and  healthy as a bass that size could possibly be

Can you share how you caught 'em? Lure of choice?

BTW, the smile tells it all! You should be proud.....

green pumpkin J&P.
terminator 3/8.
super chunk trailer

just keep fishing.

technique and location are important, but ultimately it is a question of persistence and fortune

learn by accident, trust your instincts and doubt them at the same time.

be openminded and dogmatic

know that somebody is, has been, or will be better than you

truth is -your are fishing for yourself, literally

funny thing is -you need a friend to capture that moment

1st fish, I knew I had a good one.

In my mind it grows and shrinks. I have no scale ( i seem to crave being maladjusted in some manner )

yes? no? let it go? i make an actual decision and call in the professor

-then: doubt the call instantly- then bass warps from 7 to 4pounds and back again

i have man shame, and know i pulled the trigger too fast...

5.14----after the weigh in, i am about to load the truck

John says " go out there and catch another!"

so i do, and we meet number two...

i am certain he will protest, but that bass is more Curly's than it is mine-for reasons both within and beyond this day.

Fantastic, Jeff.  You have the Kavorka - the lure of the animal (a Seinfeld reference - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qZcaWmd5X9Q).

Awesome stuff. Sounds like two pre-spawn sows. Still can't see these pics at work, but imagine they are beauties!

If it were easy, they'd call it catching!
