I got to Sandy Point at 6am, and put my lines in around 6:30. Bait was the standard bloodworm on a circle hook.
It was dead calm out there and there were only a few other fishermen. Just a beautiful morning.
The bite picked up around 7:30am. I caught a runt and a couple other people caught little ones too. Sometime around 8 I got a nicer bite and pulled in this fat 35" striper.
The bite was sporadic for the rest of the day. I only caught 3 more stripers, all under 20".
Nice to see the park mascots are still alive and well, and as hungry as ever.
It was a perfect day to be outside, catching a nice fish was just icing on the cake. What a great time. I left at 4pm with a nice raccoon tan from wearing sunglasses all day.

Nice work....beach fishing without driving to the ocean!

Very nice. There are a few points and rigs where that works insanely well on the bay this time of year. That one however can get very crowded. Amazing those fish will eat a one inch piece of bloodworm on one rod and a whole herring on the other. No more whole herring though. Fresh bunker will work but it's got to be fresh. Frozen herring and you may only get the head to stay on but then it won't bleed quite right. Bloodworms are the way to go for the shore fishing. I'm convinced that the fish are in shallow feeding on some sort of worm in the sand and therefore it works best.

Yeah it's definitely nice to get beach pullage without having to drive all the way out to the ocean. I almost think of Sandy Pt as a "local" spot because it's only a little more than 2 hours from home.
I'd love to try some cut bait out there. Unfortunately there's nowhere to get fresh bunker where I live, and the herring in my freezer that I caught last year is now contraband LOL. I had actually brought a few shucked clams, but completely forgot that I had them with me. Been meaning to try try those too. Oh well, probably wouldn't have worked as well as bloods anyway.
