Pavilion Lake - Crappie

Curly/Ernie:

Do you know if Pavilion Lake has any Crappie? If so, where is the best location on the lake to fish for them? Is fishing off of the pier an effective strategy. I'm having limited success in Cedar catching them. I've got real bad Crappie fever for some reason. Seeing pictures of Curly's stringer of Crappie has got me juiced up for some fall Crappie action!!

Any help or recommendations would be much appreciated. Thanks

I found a few crappie right behind my neighbors house....cast towards you trap....jig needs to be 3-5 feet down from bobber. But it does seem they are moving and not stationary. I bet they are stacked like cordwood somewher in the middle...the mother load could be theree!

By the way, a slip bobber might be an option. Throw it as far as you can to the middle and let it drop to the bottom (will have to use a little heaver jig). Then....you can bring up a little at a time to see if you can locate the mother lode!

Re: Pavilion Lake - Crappie

Thanks Ernie,

That's exactly what I am trying to do - find the "mother-lode" school of crappie. I think you and Curly are correct about them being concentrated somewhere out towards the middle. I think Curly told me one time that there a bunch of rocks piled up near the foutain. I read that Crappie like structure like rock pilings so i'm guessing that would be an ideal place for them to school.

How deep is the water out near the fountain?

The water between the fountain and the spillway goes from @ 8 feet to almost 16 feet.
