New Boat Questions

My friend is looking at getting a new boat for around $10,000 give or take some. He is looking for something that can handle 2-3 foot waves for the occasional Lake Erie trips but would mostly be going on the Potomac and other places in northern VA. He is looking to store it in his garage which is 19'5"X8' with the trailer. He is looking at something that is around 16-17'.

Any suggestions, feedback, or reviews would be great.

Thanks,

Tyler

Re: New Boat Questions

Good luck fitting it in a garage.  Add 5 to 5.5 feet to the boat length when you count the outboard and trailer tongue.  My boat is 14' and just fits my 20 foot garage by 5-6 inches.

Re: New Boat Questions

Scout and Make Center Consoles make excellent 17 footers....

They fish Lund's, Targa's (what I have),  Polar kraft's up that way but you will get wet in 3 footers.

The thought was to get a break away tongue like Mr. Rojas was saying and somehow turn the outboard or something to get it as tight as possible. But i agree even then it will be a challenge.

Mr. Rojas getting wet is not a problem staying afloat is another issue haha.

Re: New Boat Questions

That is a mini version of what I have. My boat has a 115 and is 17'. This one has a 50 for a 16 footer. I think that it'ss underpowered but it will work.

The boat is wide so it will be steady.

I thought it was a mini version of yours... and yours is pretty awesome i must say!! I think they will be willing to buy another motor. What would be your recommendation be for a boat that size?

I have heard that evinrude or Yamaha is the way to go. They supposedly last longer and are more reliable. What are your opinions?

Specs say 75 HP max. The 2011 package has a 60HP 4 stroke with alum. prop claiming 30 mph.  Overall package length with motor and swing away trailer tongue is 18' 5 ".
