Chesapeake Bay report, 10-21-11

Mo had not been fishing for a while.....he needed a fishing fix. As did Dan, especially since he missed the last trip. But he had to miss this one too!

We got to Deale around sunup and we took our time since it was cool and brisk. As we motored out, we thought about stopping at the wall for some WP but the tide was low so we set out to cross the bay. Once out of Herring Bay I thought the best of it and headed over towards Holland Point where we saw lots of this action!

But it did not take long for this action.....

We chased birds (slowly, for several hours) and we caught lots of small stripers and some bigger blues.  I even jigged up a couple of decent white perch (9.5 & 10.25").

Where we were was perfect since we had a WSW wind and the western shore of the bay blocked most of the wind.

Mo told me he brought a banana and that we would catch a lot of fish....

We continued to chase and catch...

Even on top water....

At around 11:15, I told Mo that we needed to move since there were no keepers in the mix. This is after catching 60+ stripers, 20+ blues and 2 WP. Many of our catches were doubles as I had a dropper fly on the lines. This made for more pullage and intensified the action.

Today's high tide was almost non existent. This was bad because I wanted to take Mo over to the bridge where Bob and I had some fun a few weeks back. When we got there, the water was low and it was not moving. Where it not for some quick thinking by Mo, we may still be there as we came very close to running aground. I now know that my boat floats in a foot of water!

At noon, we went over to the wall for WP. I got 2 taps...that was it. Mo wanted to call it a day but I wanted to see more birds. We went back out and now the wind was really blowing so after not really seeing anything, we came on in and made a phone call.

This is now a Deale tradition.....nice way to ride home.

We really had a great day out there and of course, it's always a blast fishing with Mo. When the FF lit up a few times, Mo yelped and I thought pirates were coming on board. The boy gets exited when he is fishing...I like that!!

Mo got his fishin' fix today.....

I see the plastic knife again. Hope they cut this one a little deeper than the last. Glad you put Dr. Mo on some action.

Me too....he kept saying that the more fish we caught, the more toppings I could get on the pizza. I almost didn't get green peppers (keeper striper) buy he relented at the end.

Ernie I am impressed with your consistent courage to take the SS Rojas across the Bay. If you ever feel the need to catch some spray, er rays, let me know! haha

If it were easy, they'd call it catching!
