Severn River report, 9-17-11

Jimmy and I headed at 0610 but we had a slight delay of 50 minutes on the MD side of the Beltway near the BW Pkw. It seems that a drunk tangled up with another car and brought the early AM traffic to a dead halt. What a jerk....maybe he will get some jail time.

Finally, at 0810, we splashed the boat at Spa Creek. The water looked pretty good and we made the customary stop at the wall of the condos to get the skunk off the boat. Jimmy did the honors.

We then headed out to the radio towers to get away from the 10-12 kt NE winds. That we did but what we found was dirty water with lots of floating junk!

Still, we fished it and while it was slower than slow, we did manage a couple of nice fish.

This was not relaxing so we headed down Carr Creek where we got NO bites. OK....Woody said the Severn looked good so inside we went!

Our 1st stop was at auction house where we picked up a couple of juvie stripers and 1-2 white perch.

Wind and waves caused us to move on up the river.

I wanted some peace and tranquility and found it at Brewer's Pond. Here, we found some scattered WP but we were away from the winds and waves.

Our target off the water time was 1 PM but there was no way that was going to happen so we headed over to the east side of the river to fish docks and grass. Finally, we found them. Not many...not big but steady action of white perch, stripers and a blue to boot!

The teeniest of the day!

Now it was past 2 PM so we headed back to Spa Creek to see if we could hit the 50 fish mark. Incredibly, we did not catch any more in there. It was dead low tide and dead fishing!

For the day, we had 40+ fish including the 1 blue to go along with 8-9 stripers (all non keepers). We did keep a half dozen perch (some 10s and 1 that was 11) for my friend Julio who makes a great Salvadorian Fish Stew with them.

It was nice to get out considering the conditions of the bay (we never even peeked out there).

The sail boats were aplenty! There must have been hundreds of them out there.

If you look between the point on the left and the big boat, those little white things are all sailboat!

Nice report. Sounds like two good friends having a great day
It is nice to see Jimmy is not reeling them in all the way to the tip of the rod anymore.

Ha1! After the 1st one, I calmly showed him the "lever" theory of just raising the rod tip as soon as the fish shows his head. He was thrilled at doing so and mastered it!!
