That sucks....let us know if you need some help.

The pond is high, dirty and closer to my house than I would want but it is receding.

Re: flood

I live down the street from a concrete bottom drainage creek. My backyard is technically in a flood plane that has flooded my backyard before but it has never made it around the house to the stairs that go down to the basement. Water was literally waterfalling down those stairs and filling the space at the bottom of the stairs where it leaked in via a doorway. The water was only a few steps from being on our main floor. That would have been disastrous as it has the nicer furniture and more valuables. I don't know why but for some reason the water started receding all of a sudden. It was still raining hard but the water just started draining somewhere else. It was as if someone blew a dam some where downstream that allowed the water to drain somewhere other than my basement.

Obviously pics will follow in the near future.

Re: flood

Really sorry to hear from Dan.  That is nasty looking.

We had recently run a water line from the basement to the barn.  Didn't seal the hole in the wall very well and got about 150 gallons per hour at the peak yesterday.  Had it falling into a 50 gallon trash can with wheels so not much serious damage.  Amazing how much water can come in through a very small opening.

Re: flood

Yep, I live in the basement. sad

I saved my cigars, almost all of my fishing stuff, my guns, and a hamper-ful of clothes. Everything else that I own is likely soaked. Luckily I don't own a ton of things besides what I saved. The biggest loss will likely be my clothes.

Thank God that the power stayed on so the sump pump ran all night and drained all but a little bit of the water. Thankfully we also have flood insurance for $160k of damage to the house and $60k for damaged possessions so it looks like my room will be re-finished and I will get a new wardrobe, mattress, etc...

Re: flood

Glad to hear you have flood insurance.  Sounds like they'll be getting you replacement stuff.  Make sure you take pictures of everything that is damaged for the ins co.  No  matter how small or inexpensive, document every item befor eyou throw anything away.  Makes getting the ins co to pay up quicker and fairly.

Holy crap.

That is terrible. For once I'm glad that I don't live close to the water.

Re: flood

We now have everything cleared out of the basement (two bedrooms, long hallway, utility room with furnace and water heater which need replaced, bathroom and laundry room). Tomorrow we pull the wood paneling off the walls. We have 4 box fans and 2 dehumidifiers running non-stop.
