As some of you know, I moved from Reston VA to Vancouver WA in 2010 and occasionally I write a report about fishing out here. So, since my last report:
I've really been enjoying sturgeon fishing. Sturgeon come in three sizes... undersize, keeper size, and oversize. We can only keep those 38 to 54 inches long.
It sure can be fun to battle with the big oversize sturgeon (catch and release). With the oversize fish, which can take a long time to bring in, we usually pass the rod around so that everyone gets in on some of the action. Also, undersize sturgeon provide lots of action at times (catch and release).
July 14, 2011
Brought several undersize to the boat, had a couple oversize on that spit the barbless hook before we got them to the boat, then fought a HUGE overzise for over 40 minutes to get it to the boat and release it.
In the above picture, the length of the leader line from the 20 oz sinker to the hook in the fish's mouth is 4 feet.

We release lots of undersize fish such as this one on July 2 which was a few inches short:
But we do like to keep some as they are excellent eating.
July 2, 2011
We brought 34 fish to the boat in seven hours to get 5 keepers.
July 7, 2011
We brought 26 fish to the boat in less than 4 hours and kept 4.
We also fish at times for salmon, walleye, trout, smallmouth bass, and tiger muskies.
