Severn River and Bay Bridge report, 7-15-11

Jeff English and I were on the water by 0630, we put in at Spa Creek. It's a long No Wake area but it's always scenic.

We decided to head over to the BB first since the conditions were OK.

The bay was choppy but I did not get Jeff wet! There were a few boats and several kayaks working the pilings so we joined them to see if we could jig up some stripers.

Lesson learned: I need a stronger trolling motor to hold against the pilings when there is wind and current. Regardless, I got us close and we jigged up only one striper.

We did not see many marks on the screen nor much catching so we decided to head in to the Severn for some Jumbo Perch action.

There is nothing like the bend on an Ultra Light rod when a WP smashes it!

Here is the result!

The fishing was not as hot as it was last year but once Jeff and I realized that a very slow roll of the Woody Spinner was the ticket, we plucked out quite a few fish. Most were over 9" with the biggest at 11.

We left then biting since I wanted to show Jeff some other areas of the Severn. Everywhere we threw a lure, we caught fish; on top of grass beds, under docks, at the shore grass, on points....you name it.

Time got away from us so we decided to head in around 1PM. On the way back, we passed by Weems Creek so I took a right and asked Jeff if we could explore an area that I had never fished before. This was Carl's favorite creek but we had never fished just inside the mouth.

We caught a few nice ones and it will be explored further on the next trip.

The weather today was near perfect and the Targa once again proved her seaworthiness. The run to the BB can be productive as Michale (Redfish12) showed us the other day.

Good times!

That's because I wasn't in the boat! lollollol

If it were easy, they'd call it catching!

It was a great day!
For me fishing has become more about the sights, sounds, smells, and the company then the catching.
(smelly company excluded) on all accounts an exceptional day.

It was wonderful to get out and catch a few also.

Thanks again Ernie.

Looks like a great time out there! I forgot how much fun those wp are on ultralights!

Too bad there was only one waiting for you at the bridge, I'm hoping they will be there this Sunday when we head back out! Want to join us on the kayak?

One of these days we need to get you out there in a kayak! Maybe we can check out that oyster spot Tony F told us about? I need to check on my email settings, I joined CCA via the KN tournament but I do not receive emails.

I'm heading to the BB today after work to jig until dark, hopefully I'll have something to report.
