6/27/2011 Pohick trip #2

Caught another snakey and a bunch of bass. Average bass weight was lower than previous trip but I was using the flick shake more than the toad this time. I have to say I have been catching a lot on the flick shake with a Reaction Innovations "Flirt" worm.

Snakehead #2 for the year, in fact, the second in as many days...

I have to thank thai for showing me what to look for when fishing for snakehead. I do feel like i know where they are at my new spot, its just a matter of timing the tides and not missing hooksets.

Those things love to follow and slap at stuff.  Lost about a 30 incher the other day when flipping.  It sucked my craw in when I was reeling it back so I set the hook and the Snakehead shot right out of the water.  He came off near the boat.  probablly 7 or so pounds.  Also had a baby one (18 or so inches) slap at a Pop-r the other day.  They are out there, just hard to hook and get to commit.

Nice job! In my limited experience with them I haven't seen where they really attack a lure. Seem to just latch on. Is this your experience as well?

I've also "discovered" Pohick this year. Convenient for me to get to after work. May hit it tonight...

Re: 6/27/2011 Pohick trip #2

greenranger, yes I have missed several in my past few trips where they missed the bait. The second one I caught (last year) hit my frog three separate times before I hooked him.

jjfoley, in my experience they absolutely destroy my baits. It might be due to the fact that I am fishing for them with toads and frogs. The past three or so that I have caught or missed have surged behind my toads making a wake so they really wanted the bait.

Re: 6/27/2011 Pohick trip #2

Thanks for the reply, DD. I would expect that sort of reaction but just haven't seen it... yet! Gonna try more frogs and stick with it. I usually work powerworms for LM bass. They're effective so tough for me to change over. Topwater has been slow for me the couple times I've been out.

BTW, I did hit Pohick last night. Caught 6 to 3lbs and missed a couple more. I did see a giant snakehead. Had to be 30". He saw me first, though and was moving deeper into the weeds.
