6/26/2011 Pohick Report

I caught three bass and a snakehead today at Pohick. I fished back into the creek. 2 bass were on a hollow bodied frog, 1 was on a flick-shake, the snakehead was caught on a rage tail toad. The snakehead was one of the coolest takes I've ever seen. I could see a HUGE wake following my bait so I sped up the retrieve and the wake followed suit. I killed it near the boat and the snakehead ate it. Set the hook and BAM! Fish on. I've been trying to catch another snakehead for the past 3 or 4 trips so I'm glad to finally have one for the freezer.

Smallest bass at 2lbs 11oz.

Biggest bass was 3-4lbs but had problems with the camera so I let him go before he dried out too much.

Lately I have been fishing rage toads near lily pads and grass that is still subsurface, so basically near the vegetation but not over top of it unless it is sparse. Alternatively, I've been throwing hollow bodied frogs in the areas that are more dense a.k.a. "slop"

That NSH was caught way back in the thick of a lily pad field that had a small, shallow open ditch running through it. I got back into the pads then threw the toad in the open water created by the ditch. I've been having good luck along those ditches that create pathways through the pads.
