Snakeheads?

So now that more research has been done, are snakeheads actually a menace to the native species?  Why or why not?  I could have sworn that I have heard that they are actually not as bad as they thought because they eat a different source of food or something like that.  Thanks for the info, just want to know more about the fish I am targettting.

Re: Snakeheads?

According to Odenkirk the snakeheads' primary diet is the Banded Killifish, a baitfish often found in shallow inlets and slow water--places that snakeheads also inhabit.

He says they are super tasty..here's a good report about the NSH:

They look pretty good both grilled and deep fried!

Re: Snakeheads?

"Well - the research is not "done" (may never be), but we have not seen negative impacts at this point to native or naturalized (e.g., largemouth bass) species.  They consume mostly banded killifish (bull minnows).  I am not loosing sleep over snakeheads, but we still don't want them moving to other waters.  Keep fishing shallow, and fish weedless casting into flooded emergents on high tides.  Good luck."

-John Odenkirk

I sent him exactly what I posted.
