2. Riverbend - put in and out in the same place

3. Kephart - put in and out in the same place

4. Lander to POR- need to transport

Would this be day of the 4th or some other day during that weekend?

Re: 4th of July Float

I would say the day of the 4th (Monday) but that can change if we get some consensus. I can't do Sunday (unless we decide on an afternoon float) but I can do Saturday.

Typically, we have done Algonkian and then get off the water when the Jet skiers invade.

Re: 4th of July Float

With upper 90's in May and June I guess 110 is possible for that weekend. I've enjoyed the last 2 years and looking forward to another. I'd prefer Saturday, but whatever you all decide.

IN! Will check with bro-in-law for canoe otherwise can I stake my claim on the yellow yak if available? I will pay the normal rental fees (McD's breakfast).

Canoe is on reserve for you guys....

I have stake on the yellow one but you can borrow the green one. Let me know as soon as you find out so I can free up one of the boats.

So...what's your pleasure?

1. Algonkian - put in and out in the same place

2. Riverbend - put in and out in the same place

3. Kephart - put in and out in the same place

4. Lander to POR- need to transport

Other?

I have heard good reports about the finishing around the mouth of the Goose, Edward's Ferry (right across the river from the Goose) and the ledges just up from the Goose.

That would be quite crowded with a lot of folks putting in?

Re: 4th of July Float

There are a dozen or so parking spaces....some can carpool.

If everyone stays in the Goose, then yes, it will be crowded but it is a short paddle to the river and it's wide open out there.

Re: 4th of July Float

Ernie, are you thinking of floating from kephart to algonkian or staying up there? Last time we did that float seems I remember going over a log to get away from the put in. Not sure I could do that in reverse.

The Goose is shallow at the put in....might need to wade to get in the boat. Same with the take out.  I don't think it's an issue to do a put in/out there. I've done a canoe there and had no problem. Let others chime in.

The Kephart to Algonkian was a longer float than anticipated because of the slow river.

Both LMB and SMB....tubes, weighted plastics, top water in the AM, spinner baits etc

Ellen and I went down to Kiphart on Saturday and the flow was minimal.  2 miles to the main river from there.  We may put in at Algonkian with my boat and run up towards Goose Creek to fish with y'all.

It's less than 5000' feet from the put in to the river. The flow is generally low so we paddle out to where it gets deeper. But fish have been caught immidiately at the put in.

The good thing to know is that there is good fishing above Goose as well as accross from it (rather than floating down). The other good thing is that we won't be bothered by the jet skiers....

Re: 4th of July Float

I am good with either launch point, though Kepheart is right down the street from me. I am away right now, but when I return I will follow up with my bro-in-law on his availability, but first inclination was that he was free.

Re: 4th of July Float

OK....let's do Monday, July 4.

I will do Kephart Bridge Landing at Elizabeth Mills Riverfront Park (43942 Riverpoint Drive, Leesburg, VA).

Some may want to go to Algonkian....

My canoe is taken by Coz (please confirm)....may have extra yak.

I plan on being there at 0530.
