There's more than one bridge across the Chesapeake Bay where you can catch lots of stripers!

Re: Chesapeake Bay Kayak Anglers 1st Annual Tournament

Thanks Ernie!

Thought some might be interested in the first CBKA tournament results. Overall, it went very well although, fishing was tough. The water was muddy and water temperatures were 10 degrees cooler than before all the rain we had. Even so, it turned out to be a great day on the bay. It was calm, wind was light and the sun was shining most of the day. A total of 37 people registered for our very first event. We had winners in the rockfish, bluefish and white perch divisions.

Most importantly, we raised over $2600 for the Make-A-Wish Foundation of the Mid-Atlantic ($1756) and for the Maryland chapter of the Coastal Conservation Association ($855)!

Many sponsors, both local and online kayak and tackle businesses and equipment manufacturers donated thousands of dollars worth of prizes. Without these generous contributions we could not have put on a successful event. Carefree Boats made a large donation directly to Make a Wish as well as supplied a chase boat during the event (for safety) and items for each participants' Captain's gift bag! We also held a silent auction for a Jackson Kayak Coosa model donated by Appomattox River Company valued at $1000. This added to the support for Make a Wish. Please see the website for a full list of sponsors.

A special thanks to Ms. Dee Zeller and the staff at Camp Wright in Stevensville, MD. With all their hard work our tournament was more successful then any of us could have reasonably expected. They worked very hard to clean up the grounds and beach launch area after the hurricane and rains.

Overall results follows. Any category where there wasn't an entry the prize went in to the raffle to support CCA MD.

We've already booked Camp Wright for next year and hope to double or triple the number of participants. We received very positive comments about the Camp Wright venue from the Northeast & Mid-Atlantic Hobie representative. It's a great location and has amenities unique to most kayak fishing tournaments like showers, a swimming pool, dining hall and proximity to Kent Island shops and restaurants, Maryland's state capitol, Annapolis and Eastern Shore towns such as Chestertown. In fact, the Hobie rep stated it was the best venue he has seen on the entire East Coast! We plan to make this a weekend event for the whole family. We hope to see you there!

Re: Chesapeake Bay Kayak Anglers 1st Annual Tournament

You should Ernie! Lots of rip rap around Matapeake for WP fishing. There are usually a lot of rock around the bridge, but this rain had other ideas. Hopefully next year we'll get a better weather window!
