Occoquan 5/21

What a great morning of fishing!  I didn't take long to get the skunk off and then the three of us all got some action. I only got one for the day but it was a milestone fish, my first striper.  Almost a keeper at 17".  White spinner baits and swim bait were prime.  Eventually Charlie, Khan and Kham made there way up there.  Thanks for the trip Ernie.

Re: Occoquan 5/21

This was a last minute trip with some parameters....needed to be back in Ashburn by noon....we made it back by 12:10!

It was my pleasure to fish with John and T who met me at my house at 0600. We were on the water just after 0700!

The striper game is an early morning game based on how we caught them. Only if we would have been there by 0530....maybe next time.

We did not see any snakeheads but we saw lots of friendly faces. We even had a few words with a knucklehead who would motor right up to whee we were fishing with his prop half way out of the water. Dimwit is a good word for this guy....

Both John ad T caught their 1st stripers ever....huge highlight for me!

A happy man....and he should be. He caught his 1st striper ever plus 3 more!

Another 1st....

John nailed this smallie just where we thought he would be!

Charlie wedged his yak on a rock and scored with a very nice 3 pounder!

These are nice but T has a better camera....

And it was good to see Khahn out there in his rigged yak. His brother was the other passenger.

We had a spectacular day to fish and we were happy with the results!

Re: Occoquan 5/21

It was a nice day out there and nice seeing everyone.  Me and Khanh had planned to get out here for some snakeheads, but unfortunately we did not even see one stinkin snakehead.  I was happy though with a nice sized bass!  Unfortunately I only got to start fishing at 7 30 and then left at 11 30 because of all the boat traffic it was just too crowded for me.  I want to try to get out there next monday at sun up for some stripers if I am not dead after a 3 day trip on the doah!

Caught my fish on a 3/8 oz white spinnerbait with a little gold in in it with 2 silver willows.  I was very happy as I just purchased a lot of larger spinnerbaits and swimbaits to learn to fish and as I promised myself that was all that I fished.  Hopefully I will find more quality bites next time!

I think snakeheads will start to be easier to catch when the mats grow in and the frog bite begins.

Looks like an awesome trip! I need to explore that place more, sounds like a lot of good fishing back there. Congrats on the first striper, but watch out, they are addictive!
