5-13-05, Potomac River (DC) report

I really worried about fishing up at Fletcher's today instead of heading down to St. Clements. Whew! Worry no more!

We put in early at National Airport and headed up river to the famed  Fletcher's area. Word was that there were still a few stripers around. For the day of light tackle fishing, we caught 12+ herring (for bait), 12+ small white perch (for bait), 1 flat cat, 12+ channel cats up to 8 lbs., 2 blue cats, 1 carp and 6 stripers (we kept 4 which is the limit and they were in the 25-27" range).

Do we qualify for any type of SLAM with that diversity of a catch? BTW, we used no heavier than 12lb test?

Here is my 27" striper at dawn:

The weatherman said wind of 5 mph for the day, by noon, it was blowing 15+.....go figure! We caught most of the stripers on live herring and the cats on the dead stuff.
