New River in WV - 9 days of 'Almost Heaven'

arrived friday the 3rd, set up base at the campground, played some cards had a few brews and settled in.
Saturday we set some shuttles and played in the white water for a bit, then back to base.

sunday we shoved off from base camp for 4 days/3nights on the river.  first day was nice fishing wise, overcast, somewhat cool, and the fish cooperated with the 5 floaters getting about 20 fish a peice, including and 18" walleye and a 18.25" smallie that weighed in a 3.75 lbs.

monday it slowed down, the big fishes got away and we all got about 10 fish apeice

tuesday it got hot! fishing slowed to less than 5 fish a peice, and again, the bigger ones got away i aint sure about the highs, but when we got to the stopping point that evening and I hopped in my truck to get some ice and other supplies, it was still in the 90s.

Wednesday I left my raft on the trailer and traded it for the kayak and a little whitewater fun.  we got back to base camp that evening (with a side trip to pizza hut)  to meet up with the rest of the crew.  I think all in all we had about 40 some people by the end of the week.

the rest of the week, little fishing was done by me,  I opted for the kayak and whitewater fun and couldn't think of a better way to go. especially since the fish weren't cooperating

even got the girlfriend in on some of the action and she managed to stay upright better than I did

I had an absolute blast, with no schedule and nothign to do but hit the water and eat every day.  It was pushing 100 degrees almost every day, but pretty cool at night and the meteors saturday night were fun to watch

Re: New River in WV - 9 days of 'Almost Heaven'

that was me - i ended up swimming 3 times over the trip - considering though each time was on a class III+ or IV rapid, I wasn't too bummed, but a roll would make life much easier

I thought the rapids we shot on the 'doah were Class III.......or was that a Class .3? Still looks like a ton of fun!
