i set sail mid afternoon-
I tried selling crankbaits w/o success for over an hour
I had a senko rigged on my light rod
This failed to solicit much interest either
I was getting that, "Why did I bother to come out here ? ", turn in my stomach.
I headed up lake to regroup. I figured one more push since I was already on the water.
I motor by an area that has paid handsomely in the past. I had already fished it once, but reasoned it was worth a few drops as I was passing by.
The senko never touched bottom. A nice 3 pounder started peeling off 4# line, fortunately swimming out of the cover.
The fish swam 3/4 of a circle around the boat. It was a real beauty, clean and fresh. It yakked out a well digested baby bass.
With new vigor I proceeded on. Clouds moved in: I like clouds when I fish.
I got a 2#'r @ another regular stop on a JP.
Now I am thinking 15# limit.
I went on to get some shorties, then at length returned to the oracle as some rain began.
I got bit on a straight black JP. It was a good one, but wrapped in cover. We played see-saw.
My line fell, flaccid as a 90 yr old man.
Some days your bait has to make contact w/ the hard stuff to provoke a strike. yesterday was like that
You get hung or you get bit. You get bit and you get hung. Or you get to land a good one.
I have one baitcaster: It has to do it all. That was a strong fish. Could have been my season's best
