Fished a buddy tournament out of Aquia yesterday and landed this beast, my biggest on the river to date. We fished in a creek all morning with no bites until the tide turned around noon. I caught her and 2 others in the last hour before we had to leave. They all came from a shady channel bank lined with wood. We fished the same little stretch 3 or 4 times without a fish, but we saw lots of baitfish flipping and knew they were there so we stuck with it. Caught her on about the 7th pass off an old log we had thrown to about 20 times before she bit. Awesome fight on spinning gear, a bit nerve-racking though as she jumped several times and we had no net with us. After a five minute battle and a nearly-straightened hook, I finally got her alongside the boat and lipped her...and let out a hoot that could be heard for miles. Great reward for a long day of fishing hard, and goes to show that having confidence in your technique and area and sticking to your guns can pay off. After a trip to the scales and a brief photo op, she was turned loose to be caught again another day.
