Next weekend I am gonna try something

I will be down on the Piankatank next weekend fishing the Dragon and the bay.

Flash back to two years ago and I remember this crazy setup our guide out of Beaufort NC employed. It was this Boone Bird followed by a silver squid rig with three little squids and very sharp hooks.

He placed this rig on a simple spinning rod with braid line. The thing fluttered and danced on the waves behind the boat. Looked just like a jitterbug on steroids and the little squids danced up and behind the BIRD like crazy.

Now at first I snickered a bit but after watching them I relized I had seen this before. On the bay when the rain minnows get mauled by bluefish and macs.. BINGO..

I have the birds and the rigs.. hope I fill the cooler with macs like we did in NC.

I will still run two planers with clark spoons as a security blanket..

Report next week on my findings..

Re: Next weekend I am gonna try something

It worked as planned with the little tubular fish jumping out of the water behind the birds. We tried one with a spoon at the end and it got tangled all up so with out the spoon it worked great.. No fish but that is a varible that will be worked out.
