Got an hour of fishing in and lost a 8+ monster on a pop-R. Had it on for about 2 minutes and it spit the plug on a jump about 15 feet from shore. I'll get that fish or its brother this week. Caught 2 punks. No pics. The lake record is 15-9, and I caught numerous 7+ bass up to 10+ pounds from this lake when I was a boy.
More later.

I'm mooching off of someone else's signal here, so its almost impossible to download pics. Got a nice 2 pounder this morning with a few dinks. I'll upload the pic when I can get a stronger signal.

Which lake are you fishing?

Fishing St. Andrews Lake. It is on the St. Andrew's campus. About 400 acres of water and restricted fishing access. Only 100 people have permits and security guards check fishermen constantly. I have moved up to #2 on the list this year. Fishermen must pass a background check every year and must also be known to be in good standing in the community by the University. I'm one of the lucky ones that can fish it. Attached is the pic from this morning (taken by one of the security guards).

Spent the rest of the day replacing decking boards, trimming trees, etc at my mom's house. Sweated about 5 lbs off. Maybe a kitchen pass of evening topwater?

I figured .........Also got some metal detecting in last evening before dark. Still have the old trusty White's Electronics metal detector.
Hit the playground at the local elementary school and picked up about 50 coins, a silver charm and and of course the most valuable treasure.........a Chucky Cheese token (on left). About $2 in change, but hey.....it pays for the batteries.
And one of the pennies was a "wheat back"!
Might go looking for indian artifacts (arrow heads, etc) this week too!

My grandpa used to collect wheat pennies. I'm pretty sure he's probably got a couple hundred dollars worth.
I went metal detecting for the first time last winter. I found it to be similar to fishing. Both involve theorizing about the target's location, both are usually done quietly, both can take you to different settings, and when you get a hit you never know what the result will be.

Went to the lake early this morning. Ended up with a dink, a punk, and this one that was just shy of 2 pounds.
The big fish are eluding me right now .

Not to highjack the thread, but here is a link that shows you how much that wheatback might be worth...

Lake is fed by a huge cypress swamp........water is always stained with 1' visability at best............normally I don't put a swivel on, but dark water was the reason for the swivel...........maybe I'll go swivel-less on the next trip out to see if it makes any difference ?

Yeah, I've collected U.S. coins since I was about 7 yrs old. Wheaties aren't worth that much unless you have one of several different rare ones that are in very good condition. I've got a bucket of them.
I started metal detecting in the early 70's and found over $100 in silver coins (pre 1965 dates) in about a 5 year period. Sold them for 12X face value when silver prices went through the roof in the early 80's.........not to mention cashing in the gold and silver rings and gold nuggets/flakes too. Helped put me through college .

Only 2 punks today. Bumped into my old buddy the game warder this evening. Great guy and nothing like the NOVA game wardens. Talked for quite a while; might have coffee with him Monday morning...........Folks are so very laid back here..........no rush to do anything and everyone has the southern welcome mat out. Might have my full NC accent back by the time I get back to VA .

Got to the lake before it got hot today. Not a good day for crankbaits. Lost about $20 worth on stumps this morning. Picked up one punk bass and this 3 pound "southern muskie" (chain pickeral). Great fight and lots of pointy teeth to avoid when getting the hooks out .
