This was a real expedition!
I knew this was going to be a special day 'cause I was fishing with Mo! I met him at Tyson's at 0500 so we could meet up with John Page Williams (JPW) at 0600 in Arnold MD, right on the Severn River. Out target.....White Perch....BIG ones! The goal....to learn more about that area so we can take Carl to some new perch holes.
A little about JPW. He is a Senior Naturalist at the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, Inc. He knows a lot about the bay and he knows a lot of people that use the bay. All day long we ran into his friends who were boating, fishing or crabbing.
On the way to the fishing holes, we passed right by Weems Creek.
Mo stared at it disbelief as we rode by but he snapped out of it knowing we were looking for new places to fish. We went to our first spot which was right across the Naval Academy. Being Mo's senior, it was me who took the skunk off the boat with this guy!
But it didn't take Mo to get going and he started to catch BIG perch!
We fished a wood sea wall that was very productive and I finally was allowed to catch one....
....but Mo would not let up. He was relentless! I did manage to catch a few on the fly rod which is always a treat!
JPW took us to a few more fishy areas....
....and then into a nice salt pond that was being guarded by this beautiful family.
But these are MEAN swans and we did not want to tangle with them. Here is dad swan chasing us out of the pond...literally!
We went to several more spots and JPW told Mo to get off the boat to fish this pier. It was LOADED with WP! Mo caught 1/2 dozen perch in 15-20 minutes....
...he did not want to get back in the boat! So.....now it was close to noon and we were done. We had a great time, learned a lot and promised to stay in touch with JPW.

But this day was not over. JPW made a call to the City Dock and then asked us if we had any pressing plans. He said that he would like some help in moving a replica of John Smith's shallop...the one that JS used to map out the bay way back in the early 1600's! Are you kidding? We were in without giving it a 2nd thought!
We motored up Spa Creek and passed by all the big boats. This one (Winning Drive) is owned by the owner of the Baltimore Ravens.
But this is the real prize, the replica boat!
Very cool indeed!
Mo and I were the deck hands as we towed this thing across the harbor and into a very skinny area to tie it up. Needless to say, we got some stares. Here are JPW and Colleen maneuvering....
....and Mo directing!
What an adventure!!

Wow! Great trip! What was the biggest perch? Carl and I fished that 'Salt Pond' a few weeks ago with no success. That one house on the left as you enter is GIGANTIC!
Where was that rock wall that you fished?
Great work finding some new spots! That area seems to be full of large perch!
On a sidenote,
You guys should have seen the boat Carl and I saw last month:
211 feet! It dwarfed those other boats in Spa Creek!
Carl, I forgot to tell you but I looked it up and it was or is owned by the richest Israeli citizen, a woman who owns some huge bank in Israel.

The biggest perch was almost 12" and we had 2 or 3 more in the 11" range. We did not catch one under 9".
While we did catch fish, we did a lot of looking....put almost 5 hours on the motor.
The rock wall was an extension of the wood wall....straight out of Spa Creek.
There were many huge houses and many fishable areas.
JPW says Aug- Nov will be the best time!

I talked to Carl and we agreed that taking us to some of the new honey holes would be a great idea!

Those look super, any of it in paddling distance from Truxton or Jonas Greene?
That's a tough paddle form either of those destinations as you have to get to the other side of the Severn or up above the Rt. 50 bridge.
