Blast off was at 6 AM today but we could not go with a spun prop. Luckily, Anthony Vining had an extra one and with very little delay, we were in business.
Today, we were fishing the river.....this time with only 5 boats as one boat dropped out after Saturday due to too much heat! So off we went to fish some of Charlie's favorite areas.
This stuff looks good....
And before too long, I put a keeper on the boat on a green pumkinseed wacky worm fishing the edges of the pads. I did throw the frog and a buzzbait at 1st but no love was shown.. Needless to say, Charlie was happy, especially after my goose egg on Saturday. I did catch fish on Saturday, both parts, but no keeper bass.
Charlie managed a shortie but the tide was running out on us so we went down river to save some outgoing flow.
We made several moves and each time we would pick up a fish or two with the occasional keeper.
Cool scenery....
We weren't the only ones moving. The fiushing was slow and many of the boats scurried to find fish!
For the day, both Charlie and I caught 3 keepers plus several short fish. I caught mine on wacky worms worked at the edges of the pads. Not your conventional approach but when the fishing is slow.....
I was able to beat him out for 3rd place for the day by a few ounces!!
Charlie finished in 2nd for the entire tournament. He works hard and is methodical about his approach. In his mind, there is always a fish everywhere he casts. I am sure Charlie will post the results at some point
Lastly, I want to thank him for having me along. It was a pleasure to fish with him for 3 days and I had a blast...but I am one tired puppy!
I highly recommend membership in the New Horizon Bass Anglers.....

Charlie's report:
On the river, the hydrilla is thick in the pads and the fishing is correspondingly more difficult. Both the Chickahominy River and lake are known for their topwater bite, but it was also iffy. Most of the fish caught, were taken on soft plastic baits and spinnerbaits.
