Fished Cedar for an hour after work. This is what was waiting for me in the west end of the lake.............
The entire cove was a massive algae mat. Pretty much the rest of the lake had suspending filimentous algae throughout the water column. Just about impossible to not get algae on my lures on every cast. Went to a wacky worm with a small hook..........was about the only option. Ended up with 4 punks.
What a mess .

That was all behind my house until the wind shifted and the tide changed.
I had 2-3 hits on a frog on top of that stuff but did not get to land one.
They treated Cedar on the 21st bad then we had a ton of rain on the 23rd which washed it away apparently.

Maybe sent the photo to the HOA with a complaint?

hopefully the hoa may allocate some emergency funds for the curly man to work his wonders.
that is a sad photo, i took last season for granted there - ernie tried to tell me how bad it used to be
i believe it now

I went to alder for about 45min tonight because of all the algae at cedar.
I ended up with plenty of bites(on a senko), but only one nice fish. I think my hook was to small.

Fat chance. The HOA is saving its money for the new Taj Mahal Sports Pavilion. Beech and Alder will be in the same shape soon, from what I observed yesterday when I walked around them. There will be massive blooms on Sun-Tue, based on the weather forcast.

will the algae get bad enough to trigger fish kills?

Depends entirely on the phytoplankton. If the water starts turning lime-green.........very bad sign of dead fish to come.

Cedar was treated today....not sure about the other lakes. I had sent an email to the HOA on Thursday.

I fished Beech for 40 min before my allergies kicked in. It had a lot of green gunk but it was mostly on the bottom. Caught 9 bg in 40 min. It took me a minute to get casting and setting the hook back down.

The May 29 treatment got washed away with the heavy rain. I emailed the authorities yesterday and we have lots of activity at Cedar today.....man on an ATV with a clipboard and then 2 guys in a Zodiac paddling around and spraying the mats. It's supposed to rain hard later......
The lake looks really bad!

Me and Joe fished it yesterday and the cheltenham side was awful

how is cedar looking now?
interestingly, my pond in lovettsville, which i all but abandoned the last 2 yrs due to massive algae and grass growth, is looking pretty good so far.
i hit em in there like cedar was last year, except only a handful of people fish it.

The NE cove and the rip rap are goners....the rest is OK in most areas. Not sure about the west side.
