Slow...slow....slow is the way the current in the Potomac is running due to a lack of rain. The guys who row the litle red boats were rowing up past Chain Bridge without dying of heart attacks! The Fletcher's run in the spring (striper, white perch, blue cats, shad and herring) is all about moving water! You could se at least 5-6 feet below the surface.
So who cares, fish have to be there! Today, Curly and I were on the water at 0515 and fishing by 0600. It is very dark after you go under Key Bridge! While we didn't slay them, we caught 2 stripers (16 & 33") on bucktails and a brokenback Rebel. Of course, Curly caught the big one! We also caught two very hungry white perch. The little perch hit a Hopkins that was his same size, in 60 feet of water. All the shad, perch and herring were deep.
The big striper was caught in moving water way up the river and was quickly and safely released. The striper really "lit up" in that beautiful clear water. It's interesing to see the width of the Potomac up there....maybe 60 yards. Lots of rocks.
Be back there next week!
