5-22-10, Beaverdam Reservoir

Mike came over to help me load the fleet and after a quick stop at the Golden Arches, we met Patrick and Ryan for a morning of fishing.

The weather was perfect....very light breeze, overcast skies and temps in the mid to high 60's! Look out topwater!

We met Bud and his friend Tom out there as well.

We unloaded the gear and as was about to get in my yak...faceplant! I tripped on a rock and down I went. Iwas lucky to think ahead and toss my rods out of the way...we don't want them to be broken! Mike asked me if there was any blood or pain and the only issue was that I was wet (and a little embarrassed).

So off we went. Mike and I hit the cove on the right but we got no love so we headed up to the splits, where Patrick and Ryan were.

I stopped on the way and picked up a top water foot long on an older Bill Dance Excalibur Pop n' Image.....I'll take it!

We all met up after a while and Mike had found some shad busting the water and had caught a few bass. Nice fishy area....

Ryan had lost a nice one right at the boat. So we continued to fish, trying out the arsenal. I am sure the other guys will chime in later.

I worked the western shore and was throwing a Zoom Salty Super Fluke in the Smokin' Silver color on a 2/0 circle hook. The circle hook is nice to use when working the emerging grass. It will tug at you on the grass but won't get snagged up. On one of the tugs, the line moved a bit so I started reeling. At 1st, I thought I had a big fish on but then realized I was using a med rod with an extra fast tip. Regardless, it was good puallge and a nice bend on the rod. This guy came aboard and measured out just over 17"!

That was my last fish for the day.....

I had lost track of Mike and then I saw him waving from the shore line. I paddled fast and he went on to tell me that he was getting sick. Bad OJ? Anyway, he went back to the truck to lay down and we kept fishing (I did offer to take him back to his car).

Patrick and Ryan were up at the splits and we decided to work the point. Quickly, Ryan hooked up with this 16 incher!

After that, we drifted back to the ramp to see if Mike had survived. He did and we called it a day.

Hey Ernie...it was nice meeting you and Mike out there.  We had a hard day of it.  I only landed 1 about 2.5 on a senko around the rock wall of the lower left finger.  I have yet to figure that place out.  I always catch nice fish, but not alot.

BTW, It was Tom's first time on a kayak and second time fishing.  He's now got the fever.

Slow day on the water, but good to get out nonetheless. Thanks for the canoe rental!

If it were easy, they'd call it catching!

Just curious. Did you guys here any shooting going on. I was on the other side of the dam around 11 busting some clays.
