ash mon morn

rained out at work

threw a yellow/purple minus1

caught multiple shorties and a nice 4#
the 4 seemed to come out from under my feet, hit the  bait at the last second

i walked backward and pulled it onto the bank

delicate work removing hooks, but i was able to let it go

Re: ash mon morn

two thoughts i wanted to add:

both good fish in the last two days came as complete surprises

on sun i was frustrated, having just hung a jig on a branch-pulled it loose-it cracks the hull of my boat @ 100mph.
so i sigh, sit down, grab my light rod, and indiscriminately lob my senko into the distance.

i am considering calling it a day @ this point, start taking up slack, and note the classic "tension"
where instead of half limp, the line begins to draw to an immediate "point".

i am thinking hung? -because i had zero faith in that area-i sweep my 9' ultralight skyward anyway, and we have a winner!
good fun playing tug-o-war on 4# line.the fish jumps, then starts making deep lunges. the rod gives back the power, and the bass cant get enough leverage to break off. i dial back the drag anyway as it get closer. i admire a solid 3#'r, let it go, and sit dumbly.

up until that moment, all my calculated efforts resulted in just one good bite on a regular spot.

here hail mary  indifference and bingo.
you just never know what might happen out there

same thing this a.m.
i am finishing a cast, one of multiples on the same and similar planes, and i swear that 4# bass hopped off the bank like a frog and hammered that crankbait.
had this happen enough with crankbaits to recognize that multiple casts to the same target can produce

Re: ash mon morn

That cast (indiscriminate one) is called a "Campo cast". My friend John Campo messes up a cast once in a while and it ALWAYS catches a fish! Last year we were fishing at Fletchers and I was getting ready to pitch a live herring so I could settle the rod into the holder. Well....I messed up and the cast landed near the boat with a huge splash. Two or three seconds later, right before I was going to pull it in for a re try, a blue cat comes up and inhales the bait....we were in 17-18 feet of water.

A few tears ago, while white perch shallow water fishing, he casted straight down (instead of out) and landed a 10" perch!

Go figure!

Thai is quite successful with what we have dubbed "B.S." casts.

I think Andrew once caught a big fish when his cast went awry.....

haha! I've caught a lot of fish while casting my line out to tighten up the line on my spool.

Re: ash mon morn

I tend to catch things when im busy trying to get a snag / knot off my real and have yards of line lying around me... its not a good time to catch a fish

Oh and hi folks. Been a long time since I posted but Ive kept on reading with an envious eye for those that can fish in Ashburn.  So far this year almost done no fishing due to a shoulder problem hmm

Damn I miss fishing in Ashburn

I hope that wing gets better....another candidate for Dr. Mo (doberdog). Earlier in the year, I had some persistent pain and the good doc worked it out.
