Eastern Bay, 5-7-10......the May worms did us in!

Today was the strangest day I have ever spent fishing! NEVER....have I seen more fish on the Fish Finder and yet we could only catch two of them. We may have had perhaps 5-6 bites in total.

It appears that the May worms decided to hatch in the last 24-36 hours. They are little, skinny, red worms that are in oyster beds. When that happens, the stripers gorge on them. they become like catfish and just annihilate the bottom, sucking up all the worms. I wonder if this is why Capt. mike Starrett calls the striped bass, "striped catfish".

On our 2nd drift, George Lenard hooks into a nice fish....

He brings it over to Capt. Richie Gaines for the landing....

The fish obliges....

And we show off one of George's (Specialized Bats) new lures....

Nice fish.....

Well....after that, the bite died...COMPLETELY. Capt. Richie was working with four other captains.....

....but we were finding plenty of fish. We could actually feel them with our lures...they just would not bite.

We threw everything at 'em.....

.....but only managed one other FAT dink!

This is Capt. Richie and Dave Gedra.....

...those are FAKE smiles! We were not happy with the performance of the fish. I think we did just about everything we could to catch fish. I can't tell you how many times the FF lit up...to many to count.

Regardless, I learned a lot and will use that info for the Striper Tournament on June 5.

Did I say it was a gorgeous day?? And....I will back out thee on Thursday fishing with Capt. Sean Crawford!
