I'll probably be out there from 4-dark Wed through Fri.  I've got other non-fishing plans for Sat and Sun.

Re: Beaverdamn this weekend (4/9-4/11)

So...what's working out there? Simon and I are still planning on hitting it up in the AM on saturday. Any idea if the fish here are bedding like the rest of the lakes/ponds?

They were not bedding last week...before the heat wave. I would say that they are close so start shallow and work back.

Sounds like a good plan. Going to bring everything I have so I'll be ready for whatever. First attempt at nest raiding.

Use circle hooks so you don't have to slam the hookset.......be gentle.

I'm looking up the cons of this. I might not even do it. I'm a huge fish lover so I like to avoid stressing the fish out too much (irony since I fish?)

Re: Beaverdamn this weekend (4/9-4/11)

I am with you on this.....if you hook a cow, put her back gently. What people get ticked off at is taking a cow, placing her in a livewell and then releasing her later. To me, that's bad.

If you are going to use soft plastics, use the circle which will help make sure you don't gut hook the fish.

Patrick posted a study done by some Gator that stated it was OK.

If you catch a male (guarding the nest), he will go right back.

Go fish!

Re: Beaverdamn this weekend (4/9-4/11)

I went out yesterday but didn't catch anything.  Saw what I thought were smallies jumping.  I tried some top waters but still got nothing.  Eventually I paddled to the shore to see just how deep it was do I could avoid snagging lures.   That's when I found out they were carp.  Tons of them hanging out at the surface in 2-3ft of water.  I could almost get within netting distance before they would go deeper or move away.  Must be their spawning area that I found.

T - did you see these carp in the coves of the shallow side (opposite of the dam) of the lake? I plan to take my fly rod out to BDR for some carpin' this weekend. I read that carp put up quite a fight on a fly...

Re: Beaverdamn this weekend (4/9-4/11)

Chilly only in the AM....I have a pair of light waders that I have never used so I may try them.

I won't know my status until later tonight or even in the AM. If I go, I will have a bright yellow yak with a bright yellow cap. Holler if you catch a big pig and I will get over to you to take your mug shot!

Re: Beaverdamn this weekend (4/9-4/11)

That's where I usually launch from but there was talkin on the kayakbassfishing forum of launching at reservoir rd. I was under the impression, at least 2 years ago, that that launch was closed. no?

Re: Beaverdamn this weekend (4/9-4/11)

The last time I was there (which was a year or two ago) the gate at Reservoir Rd. was closed. Maybe they're parking on the road and tugging the yaks down from beyond the closed gate?

edit: I just checked bing maps and there is a truck parked by the water at the Reservoir Rd. launch. Although it could be a county vehicle or the satellite image could be old (although Bing aerials are usually fairly recent)

The other side is gated and there is almost no parking spaces
