Re: Giant carp

I'm guessing they snagged it? Can a foulhooked fish be submitted for a record?

Re: Giant carp

Re: Giant carp

The world record is a 78-pound, 12-ounce carp caught in the Flint River in Georgia according to the International Game Fish Association.

Re: Giant carp

The rules are kinda vague but based on this article, it may be submitted if unintentionally foul hooked. I always thought that any kind of foul hooking, intentional or unintentional, does not qualify for a citation..

http://www.bassonhook.com/newsinfo/article%20619.html

The previous state record was a 65-pound, 14-ounce grass carp caught by Gary Todd at Horseshoe Lake in 1995. The world record is a 78-pound, 12-ounce carp caught in the Flint River in Georgia according to the International Game Fish Association. Taylor will now have to apply for the world record, but Doug Blodgett, IGFA world record administrator, said as long as the carp was snagged unintentionally it should qualify for both the line-class record and the all-tackle record.

That says it must be caught be "legal methods" but it doesn't define "legal methods"

That's the Arkansas state record. The Virginia record is 49.25lbs

I was using the artlcle to show that the International Game Fish Association might allow submission for citation if the carp was unintentionally foul hooked. A 76 pound carp is huge and I didnt think a carp that big would be in Pavilion. I guess we will see the pic soon, right?

Re: Giant carp

Hey it's pete i got an acount on this pacemaker forum about a month ago. Never really used it.  Right now i'm trying figure out how to upload about 20 pictures of the Carp. I'll upload them as soon as i can figure out how.  The first thing i'd like to say is that it was NEVER faul hooked. It was crazy. I'm assuming it may have been a reaction strike. We had originally went up to the pavillion to fish for largemouth. I didn't even get to make a cast because my buddy John K. had been fighting this fish for 30 minutes.  I then got in the water and was reviving it for about an hour/keeping oxygen running through it's gills while we waited for a certifyed scale. Greg and I kept it healthy for that remainder of time. We have 3 signatures from adults passing certifying that we caught it on rod and reel and did NOT faul hook it. We have pictures of the weight and length.  It swam off healthily when we got all of the needed information.  I will again upload the pictures in the next 15 minutes.

Re: Giant carp

Can't wait to see the pix! I'm not trying to rain on your parade but I don't think grass carp have "reaction" bite instincts....I could be wrong.

Re: Giant carp

also VA does not have a current grass carp or white amur record, the current 43lb record for "carp" is a common carp. They might not even recognize it as a record since it's not a gamefish and an introduced form of vegetation control... but GL! Thats a big feeesh!

Re: Giant carp

ugh, with how many people that fish for Carp, it should be a gamefish and have a record....same with snakehead.
