December 26th through the AM of the 31st!

I am off all week which means I will have total access (if it doesn't snow again) to the boat.

Here are some of the possibilities:

Paul Najdzin and I had talked about doing some togging (on a charter) in the ocean on Monday the 28th but that is not set and it could change. For this trip, we can we can take others. Typically, the boat will hold 12-15 folks.....the more of us the better.

I can be persuaded to head on back to the CBBT for a day or two of fishing, weather dependent. I also understand you can get citation speckled trout at teh "Hot Ditch" in Norfolk (need to investigate).....

Another possibilitie is Lake Anna (staying for 1 night).....

There may be a few fish left out of Pohick....

The Washington Channel would be my last resort.....

If you have any interest, let me know s we can start making plans.

Re: December 26th through the AM of the 31st!

I'm interested, I only have to work two days next week. My preference would lean towards striper fishing, but I'm open to other options as well. Lemme know what you come up with...

Update: Dec.30- Lake Anna- Preliminary crew: Ernie, Curly, Mike & Charlie Hill

Other dates and locations up in the air.

CBBT seems to have "cooled off"...pun intended.

Sounds good, I'll see if I can move some stuff around to get that day off. Anna can be real good in the winter if the weather's right. The best striper fishing I've ever seen there was in January.

Re: December 26th through the AM of the 31st!

Capt. Pete Wahlberg has a couple of spots open on the 28th at $125 each. You fish from 6:30 until 4 PM.

I may make the ride if someone else wants to join me...if the spots aren't taken.

Here is his message: Deal is $125 each for the first 4. We'll launch from Kiptopeake State Park at 6:30. Ill have my full enclosure up with a heater to keep things doable no matter how cold it is. With the dropping water temps we should see some very good fishing. If you are interested give me a call at 703-395-9955. We'll track weather up until you leave your home for the trip. I'll cancel before you travel if things look bad. Don't want to waste anyone's time. Take care all and good luck fish'in!

Re: December 26th through the AM of the 31st!

I just talked to Capt. Pete.....he only has 1 spot left for the 28th.  He has at least 2 spots for the 30th.

I am completely flexible......I can take my boat to the CBBT as well with a crew of 4 in total...we share all expenses....it will require a night's stay down there.

Re: December 26th through the AM of the 31st!

I'm down for the striper charter or CBBT on Wed the 30th. I put in a request to switch shifts for that day, should here back from my boss this afternoon. I wouldn't mind going to Anna either, but I'm sure we wouldn't see nearly as much action there as we would with our other options.

Let me know at the last minute if you come up short for Pete. I'm supposed to start a job on Monday, but something might have to come up.

Work got in the way of me following up...as of now, Pete has 1 opening for the 28th.

I need to call him about the 30th.....it's all weather dependent of course. I can always take my boat if we have a crew (CBBT or Anna).

Re: December 26th through the AM of the 31st!

When is spring going to get here?

The reports from CBBT are grim right now...very few catches as the water got really cold. Very few reports from the ocean as well.

Anyway, I will keep trying to put together a few trips and hopefully some of you can jump in.

Osprey- is it too early for the power plant?

Charlie Hill- will you be able to leave the evening of the 29th for an all day 30th fishing day?

Mike- let me know which days you are available

Paul- I have a message in to my tog guy. Any news from yours?

My wife thinks I'm nuts!   hmm

Re: December 26th through the AM of the 31st!

I work Monday and Tuesday and then I'm off the rest of the week. Plans on New Year's Eve but other than that I'm open, including the following weekend. Forcast says it's gonna warm up a bit next week. A couple striper fillets would be an excellent excuse to dig the grill out of that snow wink

#1  March 21st  :-)

#2 I think it's early, but it's been cold enough, could be worth a try.

#3 She should be happy you're a fisherman and not a golfer.

Re: December 26th through the AM of the 31st!

OK...here is what I have so far:

Dec. 28- possible togging trip out in the ocean (Ocean City). I will know more later today. Paul may be working on something too. Who is in?

Dec. 30- (1) CBBT- to save on expenses, we can leave really early on the 30th and put in at Lynhaven (by 9AM)....fish until our arms fall off and get home by 10 or 11. (2) Anna- we can get there in time for sunrise and leave at sunset to see if we can bring a cooler full home! So far, it's me, Charlie Hill and Mike....need 1 more!

All of this is weather and water temperature dependent, of course.

My little sister comes in from Venezuela on the 31st so if I fish on the 1st or 2nd, it will be with her kids.

Re: December 26th through the AM of the 31st!

Dec. 30 trip- I am good with leaving late on the 29th and getting 3 in a room at the Days Inn at Lynhaven (if we don't get a 4th).

If the weather turns on us, we can fish Anna. Mike will be our guide.

If we go to CBBT, there is a mandatory stop (on the way home) at Pierce's BBQ.

Fine BUT.....don't even think of it when we are fishing the pilings. Generally, there is no time to finesse a fish when the current is ripping.....thus the need for MHF rods!

Re: December 26th through the AM of the 31st!

Weather forecast is holding up for Wednesday at CBBT: "NNW wind 6 to 11 kt becoming variable and less than 5 kt. Mostly sunny. Waves 1 to 2 ft."

Crew: Mike, Charlie, BigJeffie

Right now, the plan is to leave Ashburn at 4:15 AM on Wednesday and head down to Bubba's Marina to put in by 9 AM (or earlier). If the bay looks good, we can motor up (@10 mile ride) to the 4th island. If it's a little bumpy, we can fish the Small Boat Channel, the 1st and 2nd islands and any water that has birds diving on it.

Of course, all of this is subject to change as the weather will do whatever it pleases to do and any moment.

Re: December 26th through the AM of the 31st!

For those interested in togging the Maryland season opens back up Jan 1. I'd like to plan a trip on the Morningstar out of Ocean City. It's an open headboat but he takes reservations and sells out at 15 spots for tog. After the 1st we can put up some possible dates.
