Calling Thai and Andrew!!

After reading some of the posts on Bass Resources, I want to make sure I have identified the fish correctly in my post from April.

Please advise!

Re: Calling Thai and Andrew!!

You were right about the peacock bass. smile FL peacocks are usually of the species ocellaris or are hybrids (monoculus/ocellaris). This species stays smaller than those big boys (temensis or pinima) you see getting fished out of South America. I think you caught hybrids there.

As for the Mayan, I'm not too sure about those. My big thing is big catfish, freshwater stingrays, arowanas, and pbass. I did do a quick google search and your ID seems correct.

Re: Calling Thai and Andrew!!

Is your Q in reference to the fella that thinks he caught a mayan but clearly caught oscars?

Re: Calling Thai and Andrew!!

They call the FL peacock a "butterfly"...certainly a bit different than those Brazilian and Venezuelan monsters.

Not a mayan but Tilapia Mariae, and a large brute of a male at that!

Your other identifications were spot on!

Re: Calling Thai and Andrew!!

Those fish were caught in Monaco Cove, Miramar. There are many other lakes (Silver, Sunset) but they are all private (gated).

Very few Peacocks in Broward but they are there in the canals. Dade has them all over the place. In Miami, I fish with Capt. Mark Hall who is a GREAT guide and very reasonable! You can certainly fish DIY but the learning curve is tough.
