11/14-15 Beginner's luck holding true

Saturday I spent about four hours paddling all over Beaverdam Reservoir.  I didn't catch a thing.  The fishfinder seems to be working well though.  I'm pretty sure I found the old bridge.  There were lots of fish in the vicinity too.  Still haven't caught anything there since the first time I went.

Sunday I put in at Kephart Landing about 11:30 and slowly worked my way to the river.  The fishfinder wasn't showing much and what it was showing may have been leaves.  I know everything it was picking up at the mouth was leaves.  The water in the river was crystal clear.  The bottom at 8ft was clearly visible.  I did see one large bass below me for a few seconds before it shot out into the middle of the river.   Didn't catch anything here either.  I got out of there at 2:45.

I decided to check out the pond in Ashburn between the apartments and office park near Harris Teeter.  A few casts of the beetle spin and I had one on.   It got off five feet from shore, looked like a bass.  A few more casts and I landed a small LMB.  I tried my new green/silver Little Cleo that I picked up on Friday.  A green/silver spoon I used to have always did really well for me.   Nothing with it at this spot but it did catch me a LMB at the next spot I went to.  At this spot I caught another LMB on a beetle spin and at least six sunfish, of three different species, using nightcrawlers.  Before it got dark I tried the other end of the pond.  There was less surface activity and I was out of nightcrawlers too.  The spoon and beetle spin weren't working so I tried my old reliable fire tiger crankbait.  That got me another LMB just as I was about the pull the lure from the water.  smile   So my weekend ended up not being a total waste.

I'll have to try there again.  Odds are I won't catch anything, at least with lures.

good work

persistence pays off

as do different presentations

it has been a tough fall for me. aside from some fast spinnerbait bites on windy days, i have been grinding out every fish

i fished the harris teeter pond yesterday. tried a pig and jig , a fluke , and a jerkbait. the jerkbaits produced my only 2 bites. went to a pond across the street and had a nice one on but the hook came out because he was so fast-to much slack! he did jump and he looked like a 2ish bass.

I fished the pond again after work on Monday.  This time I had my Nikon D40 with me.  I started with a beetle spin and it seemed too easy.  Got two really quick.

Figured I would try to catch them on something else so I tried my small white spinnerbait.  First time catching something with it.

Now was as good a time as any to get my first fish on my fire tigar Rapala.  I got two with it, the last being the biggest one of the day.

It had a bigger belly than the rest too.

Used up the last of my nightcrawlers and got caught a bunch of sunfish like these.
