11/9/09 Potomac River (DC waters)

Janet and I went out for a few hours of trolling in the afternoon.

First we tried the Memorial Bridge to Kennedy Center stretch and it just wouldn't work. There was too much stuff in the water which kept quickly fouling the lines/lures... fallen leaves, loose patches of hydrilla, etc. coming downstream.

So we decided to get out of the main stream and go try in the Washington Channel. It was much cleaner there.

We spent an hour trying for stipers with mostly rebels out, but not much was showing on the Lowrance in the areas were we usually get those. We only had one hit, and a 11 lb catfish was caught on one of the rebels.

So then we decided to spend the last hour targeting big catfish. We put on bigger lures with a lot of line out so that they would run deeper and we trolled the middle of the channel in 20-24 ft of water. Caught one that weighed 26 lbs, it hit a large (8 inch) Polish Shad Diver that was out 125 ft back.
