10-30-09 Occoquan Reservoir

Mo's brother-in-law, Mike, is visiting from Minnesota. We wanted to show him a good day of fishing. For those who read my entries, that means white perch. Unfortunately, the wp have left their summer haunts and moved to deep water.

After considering our options, we decided to try Fountainhead on the Occoquan Reservoir. The forecast called for a cloudy day and we knew the water was not stained from recent rains. The crappie should be active and there are always some bass available.

We launched at 9:30 am and began dropping minnows around some of the fallen trees that have produced in the past. After moving from one tree to another, it was beginning to get embarrassing; this guy is from a state that has "Land of Ten Thousand Lakes" on their license plate!

Mo finally connected with a nice bass and now the "skunk" was removed. Shortly afterword, I caught a crappie of eating, but not bragging, size. It wasn't long before Mike connected with a beautiful twelve inch crappie. We were on the way to a fish dinner!

By midday we had four bass and two crappie in the cooler; there were a couple of "throw back" bass. The fish that we kept were healthy and chunky but not plentiful in number. When we arrived back at my house, Mo politely stood by as I filleted and packaged his dinner. He is always good that way!

I need to make a correction to my entry about Mo, Mike and I at Occoquan Reservoir. My wife told me that I had Mike's home in Minnesota. That is not correct; he lives in Wisconsin! That is better; now the "Ten Thousand Lake" part does not apply!
