NHBA tourney on Lake Anna, 10-24-09

A few weeks back, Carl Cisky, Mike Luparello and I agreed to fish the NHBA tourney on 10-24-09, Saturday. What a nice day it was! Did everyone get the wind and the rain and the rain and the wind? We suree did......mad

When we got there, we found out that one of the anglers, Jeff Palmer, did not have a partner and since Mike was going to fish with him on Sunday anyway, we all agreed that it would be best if Mike accompanied him. Good safety move but a bad knowledge loss for us!  sad

There were two major tourneys out of Sturgeon Creek Marina so we took our time getting on the water and to the fishing holes. The 1st place we hit was a point that Capt. Chris McCotter showed Curly and I a year or so ago.  Immediately,  I hook up with a smallish striper.....

.....but I'm thinking "this is a good way to start!". Then, using a weighted pearl tube, I hook into a keeper and bring ho on board. I am going to weigh fish in at the weigh in today!

I guess Carl didn't think my fish was worthy of a picture. It did weigh 1.3 pounds!

We moved off the point after many cast without another hit and found a cove that we licked. Carl got a few nibbles and then he finally snagged this guy!

In to the live well he goes and we are both relieved....no bass skunk today. Unfortunately, Carl fish struggled in the live well and he decided to release it to see if he would make it in his home waters. The fish swam away OK.

A good friend of mine owns this place....nice!

We fished our behinds off for many hours after catching out three fish during the 1st 90 minutes. We may have had a few bites but we landed nothing. We spent the last 90 minutes of the tourney striper fishing as my fish finder was lit up with striper marks but they were not eating. Of course, we were getting soaked in the process...and blown all over the lake.

We got some dirty looks from this crew.....

We did have to do a little work when my hat blew in the water, Carl expertly retrieved it!

There were 24 fishermen in the tourney fishing out of 13 boats. I managed to finish in 13th place with my one fish. Mike (purpleworm) finished in 7th with three fish. Carl did not place. Out of the 24 fishermen, nine did not catch a fish, eight of us caught one fish and there was only one limit! Charlie Taylor won the Saturday portion of the tourney with 2 fish.....6.8 pounds.

To say it was a tough day of fishing was an understatement. But I would rather have gone fishing than not!  cool

Time to go fishin' again!
