10-23-09 Potomac River (DC waters)

We trolled spoonbill type lures from about sunrise until a bit after noon. The action was slow, we only caught three fish.

We started out in the WC where we caught a couple stripers. Then we tried the channel edges along Bolling Air Force Base where we didn't catch anything. Then tried the area around the Memorial Bridge where we picked up a 43 lb catfish.

Yeah, we try to confine any blood and/or slime to a wet towel on the floor... but that beast wouldn't stay put and kept flopping around.

We set two records. The striper is the best we've caught in DC waters (beating previous record of 24'') and the catfish is a new record for us (beating previous record of 41 lbs which was just recently set on Oct 13, 2009). Both of these big cats were caught using the jumbo size lure that I showed you the last time you were at my boat.
