Fished with Mo aboard Capt. Chris Newsome's Andros 23 footer (NICE!).
Lots of NE wind (for the 4th time in a row....)
Lots of nice fish, some on a fly......story and pictures tomorrow (too tired to post any more).

Capt. Newsome sometimes keeps his boat at his folks house, as you exit the creek, there stands this nice home which sits on a marsh.
The first order of business was to go catch (by cast net) some peanut bunker (PB, juvenile menhaden). These would be used as bait and to excite the fish!
Both Mo and I started throwing artificial baits and for the first 30-40 minutes, we did not get a bite. Chris decided to throw out one of the PB and he landed this nice striper.
Skunk off the boat but nothing doing for us. I wondered why?

Well, here is your answer!!
I finally took my skunk off with this undersized flounder.....
....and Mo got his on this striper.
It didn't take Mo long to realize that live bait was the way to go. It was similar to perch fishing ina s much as he needed to throw the bait in and around and under boat docks. He did this well and was rewarded with many of these.....
.....and these
After struggling to catch 4-5 fish on a jig, I went to the fly and had a little better success, even in the wind!
Then Mo caught two very special redfish (which is what he was after). Here is a beautiful 12 dotter!
And then, this nice 22.5 inch red.....nice. This one will be mounted, not because of size but because it was Mo's 1st ever legal redfish!
I guess you really can't tell in the pictures what a great time Mo had. There was no holding back. It was an exiting trip for sure. Mo ended up catching 18 stripers and 5 redfish. We had to work for these fish....no freebies. They (fish) needed to be enticed with a nice presentation.
What a day even with the NE winds!!

Wow, I have never seen a redfish with that many spots! I would love to catch one of those guys.

What a great day, thanks to Ernie and Capt. Chris. I had so much fun, I'm definitely still soaring. I will have to say that red fish are great fighters. I lost 8 hooks because the fish ran my line into the barnacles of the piers. As I write this a smile comes to my face, what a day Ernie!
I love fishing!

After Mo caught that big red, he sprawled out on the deck, I thought he was going to pass out. I'm not sure Chris has ever seen that move. But that is what he came to do and got it done.
I need to think about doing a couple of days down there on my boat, maybe next year.......hmmmm, I wonder if I could get a crew?

Count me in, if there is room. I thought I was going to pass out too, my hands were shaking from all the excitement. Especially because couple of casts ago I lost a big red.

I'll join your crew if you'll have me along! And I'll be sure to leave the bananas at home!

Cool trip! The Piank is awesome, one of my favorite places to fish in Virginia.

No one smiles as big as Mo! The man truly enjoys fishing. In his short tenure of one year, he has accumulated some nice trophies for his "Man's Room." This winter he hopes to get a trophy yellow perch.

Mo and Dan are in but you guys need to remind me in June '10 so we can plan the trip. August is the time to go so we can have a shot at speckled trout as well.
We need to bring Curly with us too.....we need a net (for bait) man!

I have a nice cast net. You are welcome to borrow it anytime.

Then you can throw it!
