Yesterday Mo and I launched at 5:30 am at Chaptico. Low tide was due at 8:32 am. We started at the outflow area where we have caught rockfish. I casted a surface plug and hooked a striper but it spit the hook. A couple of casts later I landed a nineteen incher. Up until this point, the water had a very small wave action. After catching this fish, the water became very smooth. With the smooth water the fish bite ended. I have noticed this in the past. It seems as though the fish don't feed unless there is some movement of the surface. This also applied to the, usually cooperative, white perch. The remainder of the trip we had "glass smooth" water and very little fish activity. We came in at 11:00 am with probably no more than twenty fish.

That's weird...I looked back at our pictures from 8/15 and the water appeared to be very smooth that morning but it was moving.
