8-8-09, Wicomico & Potomac Rivers report

I met Paul Kordon and his daughter (7 years old) Macy at the church at 6:15 AM....they were ready to go! We were going white perch fishing in the Wicomico & Potomac Rivers!

The first stop was at the Chaptico deli for the customary breakfast of home made sausage and egg sandwiches followed by bread pudding made out a 100 year old recipe. Great start to the day.

The wind was up a bit when we launched but the Wicomico river was fairly calm....until we gt close to the mouth where it became choppy so I headed over to the back oof St. Margaret's Island where it was still and calm.  Paul was throwing an old yellowish tube with a gold spinner. Macy was throwing a smaller silver spinner and I was simply throwing a grub. All of us where using Ultra Light tackle.

This is the 1st of Paul's five perch........

.....before I switched everyone to gold spinners. Also note that Paul NEVER changed lures the entire day. By the end, his tube had no tentacles, yet he kept catchin"!

We then moved to another side of the island where I have caught stripers before so I handed Paul a heavier jigging rod. In a few minutes, he was hooked up to this nice 20 incher!

Paul was up 5 perch and 1 striper on Macy and I so we decided to move to "poop" rocks where there is always a chance to pick up a couple of stripers.....

....but no one was home! We then took a nice ride up river and jigged a few places....no one home again. So it was off to Swan Point. It didn't take long for us to start catching perch and Macy got her 1st before I did!

Paul was way up on me and was even catching them upside down......

And then the big one of the day!!

Here I am using 2 rods trying to catch up to Paul who is smoking me at this point!

Then we went to play for a bit.....

http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/jj320/Kiko13PB/IMGP0355.jpg....I scored some small perch! And so did Macy!

Then it was off to lunch at Quade's where we had Mrs. Quade's crab cakes and burgers.

Next it was on to the White Point Bar where we caught a few....then to the mouth of Mrs. Wolf's cove where we caught some off the grass....and then on to the little creek where we did OK until we drifted upriver and started to really catch some nice one in the rock jetties and points.

At the end of the day, Macy tallies 11 white perch, I caught 42 WP, 1 teeny striper and a croaker. Paul was the top dog with 47 WP and the big striper. That's 103 fish!

What a day!!

* * ATTENTION** - Carl, based on your "keeper" system, you would have taken home a good 2 dozen fish today. Lots of action!

Ernie, that spot where you're out of the boat casting is almost heaven in October on a strong incoming tide. No stripers there?

Paul- I had a great time with you guys....next time tell Jenna that she has to wake up! I'm thinking we can do a PM on the DC portion of the Potomac with the 3 girls in late summer or early fall.
