8-6-09 Solomons Island

Yesterday Mo and I launched at the newly discovered peir in Cuckhold Creek. It was 5:00 am and the water was like glass. We had four hours left of falling tide. There were many schools of "rain minnows" and the rockfish and bluefish were working them. We caught many small bluefish and two small rockfish. The rockfish were kind to our grubs but the bluefish were not. Soon, there was a "grub graveyard" in the bottom of the boat. The white perch were difficult to find in any numbers. We caught one here and there. It was just frequent enough to keep it exciting. I now know, don't promise fish before you go fishing! Mo said maybe the recent rain had lowered the salinity of the water. If that is possible, a few tide changes should correct it. I hope to go again Friday. If so, I will report back.
