Cedar and Heron Report - 072209

I hit Cedar primarily yesterday and quickly go three blowups on the matted algae in the northeastern cove. No takers, but it was good to help me figure out the pattern. I decided to fish shallow pulling a cane toad across shallow flats and I ended up with 7. I lost the biggest of the day that looked to be about 1.5lbs, but what can you do.

I did notice that most of the fish I am catching have been caught. It is a free world, but perhaps the pressure is too significant in Cedar. I caught one with a rusting hook in its throat. I couldn't get it out and opted not to force the issue. It was still eating and looked quite healthy which was a good sign.

I then opted to stop by Heron before going home and threw a line in for a brief 20 mintue period. I ended up with one REALLY fat 13in bass. He/she is definitely not starving in there. Those are by far the fattest fish of all the lakes.

If it were easy, they'd call it catching!

You are right that Cedar could use a break...Curly and I talked about it the other day...lots of preassure for sure.

The blue gill bite is great on a 3 or 4 wt fly rod but most guys don't target them.

I'm glad to see this report, I was worried there was a posting moratorium on ashburn lakes (it's been 4 days) That was weird.

Re: Cedar and Heron Report - 072209

i do catch a lot of fish w/ hook marks, but then I get them that dont have any as well

that fish coz got w/ a hook in the gullet may have been one of mine.

when i was throwing wacky senkos, they were eating them fast.
a few got the hook deep and rather than kill the fish i cut the line.

today was a soft day for action
-i still do quite well at other times
cedar can spoil you, because there are so many times when it is simple to catch fish
when they are in an agressive shallow pattern, the action is nonstop

that pond is packed w/ bass smaller than one pound
if the fish quit biting, the fisherman will go away

i dont think the stock is in real jeapardy
those hook marks can get pretty ugly
